Tennis at BTC

The Club boasts eight highly maintained har-tru clay tennis courts surrounded by eight beautifully landscaped acres, clubhouse, covered terrace and includes a locker room and snack bar. Junior and Adult lessons and clinics are offered to match your skill level. A variety of activities scheduled throughout the summer give members opportunities to meet other players to socialize on or off the court.

  • Errol Nattrass, Tennis Director
    • Errol, a native of Johannesburg, South Africa, cultivated his passion for tennis from an early age. Over the past two decades in Vermont, he has left an indelible mark as the Director of Tennis at Windridge Tennis & Sports Camps and Director of Tennis & Resort Programs at The Bridges Resort in Warren, VT.

      A graduate of The University of the Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Finance and Marketing, Errol's tennis journey encompasses leadership both on and off the court. He excelled as a #1 singles and doubles player for WITS, chairing the tennis club and earning a spot on the Gauteng Provincial University Team, which clinched gold at the South African National Universities Championship.

      In the competitive realm, Errol consistently ranked among the top 10 in the New England Men’s Open circuit, achieving an impressive year-end ranking of #3 in 2007. His prowess extends to various state championships, including victories in the Connecticut Open, South Shore Open in MA, RFC Championships in ME, and the Vermont Tournament of Champions.

      Holder of a PTR Professional Tennis Teaching Qualification for U10, 11-17, and Adult Tennis, Errol's commitment to coaching earned him the USTA New England PTR Pro of the Year award in 2012. From beginners to nationally ranked players worldwide, Errol's coaching impact is profound.

      Currently serving on the USTA VT board, Errol is dedicated to advancing tennis in the state. His belief that tennis is a timeless sport accessible to all is reflected in his teaching philosophy. As General Manager of BTC, Errol brings his wealth of expertise to elevate the club to premier status, ensuring an exceptional tennis experience for all members.

      Having been an integral part of BTC since 2017, Errol's expanded role as General Manager promises stability and ongoing enhancements. While Summer Members may not notice significant changes during their on-court experiences, we eagerly anticipate the positive impact Errol will bring to BTC in his new position.

  • Grif Edwards, Junior Tennis Director
    •  Grif's tennis journey took root in the competitive junior scene of Durham, North Carolina, before he continued his passion for the sport at the Division III College of Wooster in Ohio. Armed with a B.A. in history from Wooster, Grif has spent the last seven years imparting knowledge as a high school social studies teacher. Currently, he serves as the head tennis coach at Harwood Union High School in Duxbury, VT, entering his second impactful year in the role.

      Beyond the classroom and coaching on the high school courts, Grif has extended his tennis expertise to private lessons, sharing his love for the game with players of all ages. A seasoned BTC member for a couple of years, Grif was not only excited but also honored to take the reins of the Junior Tennis Program, contributing to the growth and development of budding talents within the BTC community.

  • Rob Barr, Tennis Pro
    •   With more than three decades of coaching expertise spanning all levels of the game, Rob boasts a rich background in tennis. His journey has taken him across the globe, coaching on prestigious stages such as Wimbledon, the Australian Open, and the US Open, as well as various pro events worldwide. During his tenure as a college coach at Middlebury College, Rob not only guided a team to an NCAA National Championship but also led them to the NCAA Final Four on three separate occasions. Additionally, his impact extends to the national level, having served as a coach for USTA Eastern, contributing to the success of junior players at National Zonals, Intersectionals, and National Claycourts. Rob's multifaceted coaching experience reflects a dedication to excellence and a passion for nurturing talent at every level of the tennis spectrum.

  • David Moore, Tennis Pro
    • David is no stranger to the Vermont tennis landscape. Beginning with a long-tenured position at the Bridges Resort in Warren and coaching the Men's Tennis Team at UVM, lasting memories and loads of fun were plentiful.

      Most recently, David led the tennis program at the Houston Country Club, a family Club with a rich tradition of tennis. Always having his sights set on a return to Vermont, his homecoming to Burlington was at the New Year '24.

      Currently serving as the Assistant Men's Tennis Coach at Saint Michaels College and as a classroom assistant at the Sara Holbrook Community Center in the North End, David anxiously awaits the start of the 2024 season, serving the families of BTC and being a part of the fantastic staff at the Club.

  • Jerry Knickerbocker, Tennis Pro

      Jerry, a dedicated tennis aficionado, finds his passion on the courts of BTC, where he actively contributes to the tennis community. Holding a Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) License, he thrives on assisting players in reaching new heights through his coaching and instruction. Whether you're seeking game improvement or a competitive hit, Jerry is eager to lend his expertise.

      With over 25 years of active involvement in Vermont tennis, Jerry assumes the role of State League Chairman for Adult Tennis on the Vermont USTA Board. Beyond administrative responsibilities, he captains various USTA teams and orchestrates the Vermont State High School Boys Individuals Tennis Tournament.

      Tennis is not just a sport for Jerry; it's a family affair. He and his wife, Sue, connected on the courts, and their three children share the same love for the game. Spotting the family at Lobs & Lagers or engaging in a spirited round of family doubles is a common occurrence, underscoring Jerry's commitment to fostering a love for tennis within his family and the broader community.

  • Aynara Ferraz, Tennis Pro

      Aynara Ferraz Armas, originally from the Canary Islands, Spain, embarked on her tennis journey at the tender age of 5 and has been an avid player ever since. Transitioning to the role of a tennis instructor after her junior year of high school, she shared her expertise at the esteemed tennis camp, Campamento de tennis l'eliana, which she attended for a decade during her youth. In 2020, Aynara obtained a Level 1 PTR certification course in Spain, underscoring her dedication to tennis education. Her instructional prowess extended to Belmont Country Club during the summer of 2023.

      A champion in her own right, Aynara clinched the Canary Island Championships and traversed Spain for competitive junior tournaments. In the most recent season, she demonstrated her skill on a national stage, reaching the finals of ITA's in doubles and making it to the singles semi-finals, earning a trip to nationals.

      Academically, Aynara is set to graduate this semester with a degree in Finance and Accounting from Franklin Pierce University. Beyond the confines of the tennis court, she finds joy in outdoor pursuits, relishing activities such as hiking, camping, and quality time spent with friends and family. Aynara's love for tennis is matched only by her enthusiasm for sharing that passion with others.

      My name is Telma Lorenzo Herreros, and I am writing to introduce myself. I hail from the beautiful city of Marbella, located in the sunny region of Andalucia in Spain.

      From an early age, I developed a passion for tennis that has accompanied me throughout my life. I first picked up a racket at the tender age of 6, and since then, the tennis court has become my second home. The sport has taught me valuable life lessons, such as discipline, perseverance, and teamwork.

      After completing my studies at IES Rio Verde, where I obtained my Bachelor of Science degree, I decided to embark on an exciting journey to the United States. Last year, I had the opportunity to study at Weatherford College in Texas, immersing myself in a vibrant and diverse cultural environment. This year, I am continuing my academic pursuits at Franklin Pierce University.

      While my focus has shifted towards higher education, with the love that I have for tennis. I take great pride in being crowned the doubles champion of Andalucia for two consecutive years and reaching the finals in another year. Additionally, I had the privilege of representing my region in the national championships, where I advanced to the third round in singles last year. Furthermore, I gained valuable experience working as an assistant coach at my tennis club last year. Presently, I am pursuing a tennis scholarship at Franklin Pierce University.

      I am determined to continue honing my skills, both on and off the court, and I am eager to explore new opportunities that lie ahead. I am confident that my dedication, resilience, and passion for tennis will enable me to make a positive impact in the world of sports.

At BTC, we also love adults! In fact, several of our members compete nationally. The BTC adult offering includes a variety of opportunities for improvement and fun. We specialize in private lessons, group clinics and social tennis events. And, for those who like to compete at the club level, a summer long Singles Flex Ladder is available as well as entry to in the Annual Club Championships. Non-members are welcome to try out some of our adult programs at a slightly higher fee.

      Our 1.5 hour clinics are tailored towards different levels of play. They typically include technical instruction, relevant game-type drilling & scenarios, and fun energetic finishes. Sign up for one of our level-specific clinics listed below or create your own private clinic group with 3 or 4 players of a similar ability. Must sign up ahead of time!
